Ingredients:

  • 1 cup flaxseeds (nuvvulu)
  • 1 tablespoon urad dal (split black gram)
  • 1 tablespoon chana dal (split chickpeas)
  • 2-3 dried red chilies (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for added flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon grated dry coconut (optional, for added texture and flavor)
  • 1-2 tablespoons oil (optional, for roasting)
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Dry Roast Ingredients:
    • Heat a skillet over medium heat. Dry roast the flaxseeds until they start to pop and turn slightly brown. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
    • In the same skillet, dry roast the urad dal, chana dal, and dried red chilies until they are golden brown and aromatic. If using, add the sesame seeds and grated dry coconut towards the end and roast for a minute or two. Be careful not to burn them.
  2. Cool the Ingredients:
    • Allow all the roasted ingredients to cool completely. This prevents moisture from causing clumping in the powder.
  3. Grind the Powder:

    • Add salt to taste.
